Attention:
Disengage all latches, release tabs or locks on cable connectors
when you disconnect all cables from the system board (see “Internal cable
routing and connectors” on page 186). Failing to release them before removing
the cables will damage the cable sockets on the system board. The cable sockets
on the system board are fragile. Any damage to the cable sockets may require
replacing the system board.
6.
Remove any of the following components that are installed on the system
board and put them in a safe, static-protective place:
v
Adapters (see “Removing an adapter” on page 238)
v
DIMMs (see “Removing a memory module” on page 293)
v
Microprocessors and heat sinks (see “Removing a microprocessor and heat
sink” on page 315)
Note:
a.
Remove the socket covers from the microprocessor sockets on the new
system board and place them on the microprocessor sockets of the system
board you are removing.
b.
Do not allow the thermal grease to come in contact with anything, and
keep each heat sink paired with its microprocessor for reinstallation.
Contact with any surface can compromise the thermal grease and the
microprocessor socket. A mismatch between the microprocessor and its
original heat sink can require the installation of a new heat sink.
v
Microprocessor 2 expansion board (see “Removing the microprocessor 2
expansion board” on page 326)
v
Battery (see “Removing the system battery” on page 262)
v
Hypervisor (“Removing a USB embedded hypervisor flash device” on page
302)
v
Remote RAID battery holder (see “Removing a RAID adapter battery or flash
power module holder” on page 213)
7.
Pull the release pin up while holds the handle on the system board and slide
the system board toward the front of the server to disengage the tab from the
chassis; then, grasp the handles and carefully lift the system board out of the
server.
