Using the cable-access openings in the top of the rack
Route cables through the cable-access openings.
Use the front and rear rectangular cable-access openings on the top of the rack cabinet to route external
cables and to control the flow of air inside the rack.
To adjust a cable-access cover, use a Phillips or flat-blade screwdriver to loosen the two screws on the
sides of the cover. Then, slide the cable-access cover to the position that you want, based on the
requirements for your rack configuration. Use the following guidelines to adjust the size of the
cable-access openings:
v
Top front cable-access opening:
Slide the cable-access cover as far forward as possible to close off the
open area so no hot exhaust air can recirculate back through the rack and exhaust out the top of the
rack. The front opening is very close to the front of the rack and the air inlet to the servers in the rack.
v
Top rear cable-access opening:
Slide the cover all the way open or closed, or in any intermediate
position. Leaving the cover open provides extra exhaust area for components near the top and bottom
of the rack; however, in some configurations, this shortens the hot air recirculation path from the rear
to the front.
