The
amount
of
system
memory
displayed
is
less
than
the
amount
of
physical
memory
installed.
Make
sure
that:
v
The
DIMMs
are
seated
correctly.
v
You
have
installed
the
correct
type
and
capacity
of
memory.
v
You
have
installed
the
DIMMs
in
the
correct
slots,
in
the
correct
order.
v
If
you
changed
the
memory,
you
updated
the
memory
configuration
in
the
Configuration/Setup
Utility
program.
v
All
banks
of
memory
are
enabled.
The
server
might
have
automatically
disabled
a
memory
bank
when
it
detected
a
problem,
or
a
memory
bank
might
have
been
manually
disabled.
Look
in
the
POST
error
log
for
error
message
289:
v
If
the
DIMM
was
disabled
by
a
system-management
interrupt
(SMI),
replace
the
DIMM.
v
If
the
DIMM
was
disabled
by
the
user
or
by
POST,
run
the
Configuration/Setup
Utility
program
and
enable
the
DIMM.
v
If
this
error
remains,
replace
the
DIMM.
If
the
problem
remains,
call
for
service.
Microprocessor
problems
Symptom
Suggested
action
The
server
emits
a
continuous
tone
during
POST.
The
startup
(boot)
microprocessor
is
not
working
correctly.
Make
sure
that
the
startup
microprocessor
is
seated
correctly
in
socket
1.
If
it
is,
replace
the
startup
microprocessor.
If
the
problem
remains,
call
for
service.
Monitor
problems
Some
IBM
monitors
have
their
own
self-tests.
If
you
suspect
a
problem
with
your
monitor,
see
the
information
that
comes
with
the
monitor
for
instructions
for
testing
and
adjusting
the
monitor.
If
you
cannot
diagnose
the
problem,
call
for
service.

The
screen
is
blank.
Make
sure
that:
v
The
server
power
cord
is
connected
to
the
server
and
a
working
electrical
outlet.
v
The
monitor
cables
are
connected
correctly.
v
The
monitor
is
turned
on
and
the
brightness
and
contrast
controls
are
adjusted
correctly.
Important:
In
some
memory
configurations,
the
3-3-3
beep
code
might
sound
during
POST,
followed
by
a
blank
monitor
screen.
If
this
occurs
and
the
Boot
Fail
Count
feature
in
the
Start
Options
of
the
Configuration/Setup
Utility
program
is
enabled
(its
default
setting),
you
must
restart
the
server
three
times
to
force
the
BIOS
to
reset
the
configuration
settings
to
the
default
configuration
(the
memory
connector
or
bank
of
connectors
enabled).
If
the
problem
remains,
call
for
service.
Only
the
cursor
appears.
