20.3 DS3500 FC SAN boot configuration for SLES 11 server
using RDAC
In this section we discuss how to configure an HS21 BladeServer to be able to boot from a
DS3500 storage subsystem using FC HBAs on a SuSE Enterprise Server environment.
20.3.1 Preparing for the installation
For our setup, we used the following hardware and software components:
HS21 BladeServer.
Dual Port 4Gbps FiberChannel HBA.
Two FiberChannel switches
DS3500 Storage Subsystem
A management workstation running the latest version of DS3500 Storage Manager.
The latest version IBM RDAC drivers for Linux.
SuSE Linux Enterprise 11
Here is a summary of the steps:
1. Check the compatibility in IBM System Storage Interoperation Center web site
(
http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/support/storage/config/ssic
) to be sure it is a
supported environment and also to be sure which multipath driver is needed (RDAC,
MPIO, DMM, etc). The SSIC can provide the interoperability matrix, and is a selection
driven tool where you provide the criteria for your configuration.
2. Download the latest multipath driver from the IBM support web site and read carefully the
multipath driver README file to see which kernel version is supported with that driver.
3. The first thing to do is to enable the Host Adapter Bios setting. This parameter enables the
ROM Bios in the Qlogic adapter to search for SCSI devices. After this, the switch will be
able to see the WWN of the Qlogic if it is already connected.
a. While booting the server, press Ctrl-Q to enter the Fast!UTIL configuration utility as
show in Figure 20-25.
Figure 20-25 Press Ctrl-q to enter Fast!UTIL configuration Utility
b. Use the cursor to select the HBA and press ENTER as shown in Figure 20-26 on
page 628. We need to repeat these following steps on both available HBAs
