6. Power on all storage enclosures.
7. Execute Install Complete on the storage enclosure only. For more information, see Starting ESS Code
20 App Installation process section in SSR considerations before arriving customer site topic of the
Installing chapter in ESS Hardware Planning and Installation Guide.
8. Run common system health check by using the SSR utility.
9. Customer task: Include storage enclosure(s) to recovery group (RG).
The procedure for adding newly installed HDDs from an 5147-102 enclosure to an existing filesystem
on an 5141-FN2 system is demonstrated in the example below.
Note: The procedure can be used after any storage MES as long as at least one 5147-102 storage
enclosure has been previously configured.
a. Re-size the recovery group.
mmvdisk rg resize --rg <recovery group>
b. Verify the block size of the existing filesystem.
# mmlsfs <device> -B
Example:

c. Verify all DAs have appropriate number of drives.
Note: You need to have either 52 or 102 drives if you are adding only one enclosure. When
installing two enclosures, each enclosure must have 102 drives.
# mmvdisk pdisk list --rg <recovery group> | grep -c DA<x>
d. Define the appropriate number of vdisk sets for the HDD DAs (2 per 5147-102 enclosure).
# mmvdisk vs define --vs <vdisk set> --rg <recovery group> --code 8+2P --block-size
<block size> --set-size <X>% --da <DA> --nsd-usage dataOnly --storage-pool <data pool>
e. Create the new vdisk sets.
# mmvdisk vs create --vs all
f. Add the vdisk sets to the filesystem.
# mmvdisk fs add --fs <fsname> --vs <vsname1a, vsname1b>
# mmvdisk fs add --fs <filesystem> --vs <vdisk set 1>,<vdisk set 2>
g. Recommendation: Restripe the filesystem as needed.
# mmrestripefs <fsname> -b
# mmrestripefs fs3500hyper -b
Adding NVMe drives to an existing ESS 3500 capacity configuration
This MES procedure involves adding 20 more NVMe flash drives to an existing 5141-FN2 server enclosure
to fill up all 24 drive slots. The following are the supported NVMe flash drive capacity options for the
additional 20 NVMe drives.
