Refer to the following steps to add NVMe drives to an existing ESS 3500 capacity configuration:
1. Before beginning the MES upgrade, make sure the Technical Delivery Assessment (TDA) procedure is
finished. This step is mandatory if you did not purchase MES and attend the TDA with sales.
2. Ensure that the system is running at least ESS 6.1.5.0 for the storage MES.
3. Move the quorum to other supported nodes in the system if losing quorum on each canister server
causes an issue with the customer configuration during MES upgrade.
4. Identify the 5141-FN2 server enclosure to be upgraded.
5. Remove the drive fillers from the slots 3-12 and 15-24.
6. Verify that the 20 new NVMe flash drive FRUs have the same capacity as the four original 3.8TB
NVMe flash drives.
7. Insert the 20new NVMe drive FRUs into slots 3-12 and 15-24.
Important: Do not move the original four NVMe drives to different slots.
8. Verify the new 24 NVMe disk topology on both the canisters by issuing the following command:
# mmvdisk server list --disk-topology --node-class <node class name>
Matching Metric identifies any unexpected results in disk topology.
# date; mmvdisk server list --disk-topology --node-class
