Using Windows Remote Terminal Services
If you do not want to use Web based Terminal Services, you can use Windows
Remote Terminal Services. To do so, you need to install the Windows Remote
Terminal Services Client on the remote workstation that you are using to manage your
appliance server. To install Windows Remote Terminal Services, do the following:

The workstation you use must be on the same logical and physical subnet as
the appliance server.
1.
Insert the
Supplementary CD
into your remote system CD-ROM drive (not the
appliance server).

Click
Start

In the
Open
field, type (with quotation marks, and substitute your CD-ROM drive
letter for

:\Terminal Services Client\Disk 1\setup.exe"
Then, click
OK
to begin the Terminal Services Client Setup program.
4.
In each window that opens, accept the defaults. For additional information, see
the Microsoft Windows documentation. When the Terminal Services Client Setup
program is completed, proceed to the next step.
5.
Check the workstation network TCP/IP protocol configuration settings.
Note:
By default, the appliance server uses DHCP. If you do not have a DHCP
server on the network, the appliance is assigned the IP address
169.254.x.y (where x and y are random numbers) and a subnet mask of
255.255.0.0.
6.
Connect your remote management system to the xSeries 130 appliance using the
Terminal Services Client.
7.
In the Terminal Services Client window, type
imodelserial
(for example,
i86545DX25A1234)
where
model
is the model type of your appliance server and
serial
is the serial
number that is located in the right side of the bezel. For more information on the
location see Figure 1 on page 1.
8.
Click
Connect
.
9.
Log in to the xSeries 130 appliance server.
Use the following case-sensitive user name and password to log in to terminal
services
In the
Username
field, type
Administrator
and in the
Password
field, type
password
Attention:
Change these defaults to ensure the security of your system.
The remote workstation is connected to the appliance server through Terminal
Services. Complete documentation on how to use Terminal Services is found on the
UM Services Web-page by clicking on the matching link.
