Important:
Both IDE drives must be set to Master.
Attention:
Do not press on the top of the IDE drive. Pressing the top could
damage the drive.
9. Place the IDE drive into the tray and push it, from the rear edge of the drive,
into the connector on the riser card until the hard disk drive moves past the
lever at the back of the tray. The drive clicks into place.
10. If you have other options to install or remove, do so now; otherwise, go to
“Completing the installation” on page 52.
Memory modules
This section provides information about the types of memory the blade server
supports, and describes how to install memory modules.
Memory technology and Chipkill
Some models of the BladeCenter HS20 Type 8832 contain dual inline memory
modules (DIMMs) with 256 MB capacity and 128 MB technology, which support the
Chipkill feature. Other models, however, contain DIMMs with 256 MB capacity and
256 MB technology, which does not support Chipkill. If you require DIMMs that
support the Chipkill feature, a limited supply of the 256 MB, 128 Mb technology
DIMMs will be available for order.
Note:
IBM will continue to offer the Chipkill feature with DIMMs that have a
capacity of 512 MB or greater.
Memory considerations
The following notes describe the types of DIMMs that the blade server supports and
other information that you must consider when installing DIMMs:
Notes:
1. The system board contains four DIMM connectors and supports two-way
memory interleaving.
2. The DIMM options available for the blade server are 256 MB, 512 MB, 1 GB,
and 2 GB. The blade server supports a minimum of 512 MB and a maximum of
8 GB (4 GB depending on operating system) of system memory.
3. The blade server comes with two DIMMs installed in the DIMM 3 (J2) and
DIMM 4 (J6) memory connectors. When you install additional DIMMs, be sure to
install them as a pair, in DIMM connectors 1 (J1) and 2 (J5). Table 3 describes
the order in which DIMMs must be installed.
Table 3. DIMM installation order
Pair

First
3 (J2) and 4 (J6)
Second
1 (J1) and 2 (J5)
4. When you install memory, you must install a pair of matched DIMMs.
5. Both DIMMs in a pair must be the same size, speed, type, and technology. You
can mix compatible DIMMs from various manufacturers.
6. The second pair does not have to be DIMMs of the same size, speed, type, and
technology as the first pair.
7. Install only 2.5 V, 184-pin, double-data-rate (DDR), PC2100, registered
synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM) with error correcting
