Replacing the Battery
Before you begin, be sure you have:
Read “Electrical Safety” on page 54 and “Handling
Static-Sensitive Devices” on page 55.
Followed any special handling and installation instructions
supplied with the replacement battery.
Removed the server side cover (see “Preparing to Add
Options” on page 56).
Note: After you replace the battery, you must reconfigure your
system and reset the system date and time.
To replace the battery:
1. Locate the battery on the system board (see “System Board
Illustration” on page 203).
2. Remove the battery:
a. Use one finger to lift the battery clip over the battery.
b. Use one finger to slightly slide the battery toward the front
of the server. The spring mechanism behind the battery will
push it out toward you as you slide it forward.
c. Use your thumb and index finger to pull the battery from
under the battery clip.
d. Ensure that the battery clip is touching the base of the
battery socket by pressing gently on the clip.
