Chapter 3. Identifying hardware problems
Use the information in this section to identify hardware problems. For more
detailed problem analysis, refer to IBM Network Station Service Information -
Type 8364 (Models Exx and Txx), SY44-0073.
Note:
For the Network Station hardware to function properly when connected
to a network server, perform the following tasks:
v
Configure the network server for the Network Station.
v
Install and configure the appropriate server sofware on the network
server.
v
Configure the Network Station hardware for the network server
software.
If you are unable to identify a hardware problem, you can request service by
contacting IBM and providing the machine type, model, and serial number.
For information regarding ordering parts, and returning parts to IBM, refer to
“Appendix. Ordering replacement parts” on page 11.
Determining the cause of hardware problems
To determine the cause of your Network Station problem, follow these steps:
__ 1.
Record any problem indications, such as LED indications, audio beep
sequences, or error codes or messages, and a description of the
problem.
__ 2.
Locate the symptoms of the problem in Table 1 on page 8, and follow
the instructions provided.
__ 3.
If you are instructed to replace a Network Station part, find the part in
Table 2 on page 11, and order the part from IBM or your reseller.
__ 4.
If your Network Station is under warranty or a maintenance contract,
contact IBM Service to obtain parts. See “Warranty Statements” on
page 15 for more information.
__ 5.
If you are replacing Network Station parts, or performing hardware
upgrades, refer to Chapter 2.
