Installing Internal Drives
or tape backup unit that uses the diskette cable. All models
come with a diskette drive preinstalled in bay 7.
The system board in your server supports a maximum of two
diskette-interface devices. You can install a second 3.5-inch
diskette-interface device in bay 8. Be sure the screw holes in the
device line up with the screw holes in bay 8.
You can install a full-high drive in bays 3 and 4 and bays 5 and
6 by removing the trays from these bays. You cannot install
full-high drives in bays 1 and 2.
Your server comes with a 7-drop internal SCSI cable (depending
on the server model that you purchased).
If you install 16-bit devices, you must use the 16-bit cable that
comes with your system. In some cases, you may want to
install an additional 8-bit CD-ROM drive to a 16-bit cable. To
do this, you must purchase and install the 8-bit to 16-bit SCSI
Internal Converter. To order cables and a converter, contact
your IBM marketing representative or your IBM reseller. See
“SCSI Drives” on page 157 for additional information.
The IBM 3.5-inch rewritable optical disc drive requires a special
mounting bracket. Contact your IBM marketing representative
or your IBM reseller for more information.
Attention:
Before you remove a drive, back up all data.
