Installing Internal Drives
3. Check the instructions that come with the drive, or contact your
IBM marketing representative or your IBM reseller to see if you
need to set any switches or jumpers on the drive, or if you need
to attach a tray to the drive.
Notes:
a. The SCSI ID is preset to 6 on the CD-ROM in all PC Server
330 models. If you upgrade your server by installing a Hot
Swap Bay Option, make sure that the SCSI ID on the
CD-ROM drive does not conflict with a hard disk drive
installed in any of the hot-swap bays. (Hard disk drives
that are installed in hot-swap bays are automatically
assigned SCSI IDs of 0–5.) Your server will not recognize
either device if they are assigned the same SCSI ID and are
connected to the same channel of the SCSI controller.
b. Automatic SCSI ID settings apply only to hot-swappable
hard disk drives installed in a hot-swap bay. Therefore, if
you install a SCSI drive in a non-hot-swappable 3.5-inch bay
of a hot-swap server, you must set a SCSI ID for that drive.
c. Remove the terminators from the drive you plan to install in
bay 1 (non-disk-array models) or bay 9 (disk-array models).
The cable that connects to the SCSI device in those bays
already has a terminator.
