Installing Internal Drives
Installing Drives in Lower Bays
This procedure applies to drives installed in the bottom two bays in
your PC Server 330, either non-hot-swap model or the hot-swap
model.
The following information is important. Read the information
completely before you install any drives.
Your server comes with a 1.44 MB diskette drive installed in the
upper most bay. The system board supports two
diskette-interface devices. Therefore, you can install an
additional 3.5-inch diskette-interface device in either of the other
two 3.5-inch lower bays. Each diskette-interface device connects
to one cable (already attached to the preinstalled diskette drive).
Before installing drives, make sure you have enough cables to
accommodate all of the drives. If you need additional cables,
contact your IBM marketing representative or your IBM reseller.
If your server did not come with a preinstalled hard disk drive,
and you plan to have more than seven SCSI drives (including
the CD-ROM drive), you might need additional cables.
If you install 16-bit devices, you must use a 16-bit cable. If you
connect the CD-ROM drive to a 16-bit cable, you must purchase
and use the 16-bit to 8-bit SCSI Internal Converter. To order the
cable and converter, contact your IBM marketing representative
or your IBM reseller.
In your non-hot-swap server, you can install the first hard disk
drive (3.5-inch only) in bay 7 or 8. Additional hard disk drives
can be installed in the 5.25-inch bays.
When you install a device in one of the 5.25-inch bays in your
non-hot-swap server, you must terminate the drive in the lowest
numbered bay. For example, if you install a drive in bay 1,
disconnect the cable connector attached to the CD-ROM drive
and connect it to the drive in bay 1. Then, connect one of the
other connectors to the CD-ROM drive. Finally, put a
terminator on the drive in bay 1.
