Installing Internal Drives
Installing Hard Disk Drives (Hot-Swap Servers)
Some models come with the Hot-Swap Bay Option installed. This
option provides space for up to six 1-inch hot-swappable hard disk
drives or three half-high (1.6-inch) hot-swappable hard disk drives.
The Hot-Swap Bay option can be added as an upgrade. Contact
your IBM marketing representative or your IBM reseller for
additional information.
If your server is a hot-swap server, an IBM PC ServeRAID Adapter
is installed in your server. Internal drives are connected to Channel
3. You can expand your server’ storage capacity by adding
additional external devices to your server, such as an IBM
Enterprise Expansion Tower. To do that, you would have to use a
cable to connect the external storage device to either the external
Channel 1 or Channel 2 connector on the hot-swap server.

Each hot-swappable drive that you plan to install in the hot-swap
bay must have a hot-swappable drive tray attached to it. If your
drive comes with a different tray, remove it and install a
hot-swappable drive tray. Follow the instructions given in the kit
that contains the hot-swappable drive tray.
You do not need to turn off the server to install additional
hot-swappable drives in the hot-swap bays.
