Installing Internal Drives
Installing Optical Disc Drives and Tape Drives
To install rewritable optical disc drives or tape drives, follow the
procedure for installing hard disk drives in non-disk-array models
in the following section.
CD-ROM Drive Considerations
Your server comes with a CD-ROM drive preinstalled in bay 6.
The following information is important. Read the information
completely before you install any SCSI drive.
Only a CD-ROM drive can be installed in bay 6 (non-hot-swap
server) or bay 7 (hot-swap server).
Before installing drives, make sure you have enough cables to
accommodate all of the drives. If you need additional cables,
contact your IBM marketing representative or your IBM reseller.
If you install 16-bit devices, you must use a 16-bit cable. To
connect an 8-bit device to a 16-bit cable, you must purchase and
use the 8-bit to 16-bit SCSI Internal Converter. The CD-ROM
drive in your server comes with this internal converter.
Follow the instructions in the documentation that comes with
the drives, including those that describe how to set jumpers and
switches, and how to remove termination.
If a tray is attached to a drive that you intend to install, you
might have to remove the tray before installing the drive.
Follow the instructions in the documentation that comes with
the drive.
Changing the Termination on the CD-ROM Drive
1. If you are installing a new CD-ROM into a bay that already
contains a storage device in your server, go to “Removing Hard
Disk Drives (Non-Hot-Swap Servers)” on page 190 and remove
the CD-ROM drive. After you remove the device, return to this
section.
