Performing Common Tasks
The Create/Delete Array menu of the ServeRAID configuration
program contains the more common tasks for configuring disk
arrays. Procedures to complete these tasks are contained in this
section as follows:
“Creating a Disk Array”
“Defining Logical Drives” on page 87
“Deleting a Disk Array” on page 93
“Deleting a Logical Drive” on page 95
“Defining the State of a Drive” on page 102
“Redefining Space in an Array” on page 96
Creating a Disk Array
You can create disk arrays from your existing drives. Later, you can
add storage capacity to your server without disturbing existing data
by installing additional hard disk drives and creating additional
arrays. You can use the Administration and Monitoring program or
the ServeRAID configuration program to create a disk-array.
You can dynamically add capacity to your server (when your
operating system supports this) by using the Administration and
Monitoring program to add or create an array. By using the
Administration and Monitoring program from your active operating
system desktop, you do not have to restart the server. Refer to the
README file on the Device Driver/Administration and Monitoring
diskette for instructions for your operating system.
To create a disk array using the ServeRAID configuration program:
1. Start the server using the ServeRAID configuration program (see
“Starting the ServeRAID Configuration Program” on page 80).
Note: To create an array using hard disks in an existing array,
refer to “Redefining Space in an Array” on page 96.
2. Select Create/Delete Array/Log Drive from the Main Menu.
