Before You Begin
Before You Begin
If your server is a disk-array model, you must configure your
server after you install hard disk drives, as described in
“Installing Internal Drives” on page 212. In this case, follow the
instructions in Chapter 3, “Configuring the Disk Array” on
page 71 after installing the drives. Return here to install your
remaining options. See “Using the System Diskettes” on
page 164 for additional details about configuration.
Become familiar with the safety and handling guidelines
specified under “Safety Information” on page ix, “Electrical
Safety” on page 179, and “Handling Static-Sensitive Devices” on
page 180. These guidelines will help you work safely while
working with your server or options.
Make sure you have an adequate number of properly grounded
electrical outlets for your server, monitor, and any other options
you intend to install.
Place your server in a location that is dry. Rain or spilled
liquids might damage your server.
Leave about 51 mm (2 in.) of space around the front and rear of
the server to allow the server cooling system to work properly.
Have a supply of 1 MB and 2 MB, 3.5-inch diskettes available.
Back up all important data before you make changes to disk
drives.
Have a small flat-blade screwdriver available.
If you are replacing a faulty part and your server is covered by
a warranty, you should save the part that you replace. Place the
part in the static-protective package and store in a safe place.
Refer to the warranty or your IBM reseller or IBM marketing
representative for additional instructions.
