Installing Adapters
Adding an adapter, such as audio, communication, or specialized
graphics, extends the capabilities and power of your server. Your
server has eight expansion slots for connecting up to six Micro
Channel and two PCI adapters. You can install Micro Channel
adapters designed for 16-bit or 32-bit expansion slots. (Your User's
Reference contains more details about Micro Channel and PCI
adapters.)
Notes:
1. Memory adapters cannot be installed in your server,
because it does not support channel memory. Instead,
you can add memory to your server by using
memory-module kits. See “Installing Memory-Module
Kits” on page 186.
2. If you are installing Type 5 adapters, you might need to
reposition the adapter support bracket. See “Before
Installing Type 5 Adapters” on page 204.

Before you begin, be sure you have:
Read “Electrical Safety” on page 179 and “Handling
Static-Sensitive Devices” on page 180.
Read the instructions that come with the adapter.
Removed the server side cover (see “Preparing to Install
Options” on page 181).
