Installing Internal Drives
Notes:
1. Only one of the 16-bit SCSI-2 connectors on the system
board can be used when you are using the external
SCSI-2 connector.
2. Only two of the internal 16-bit SCSI-2 connectors on the
ServeRAID adapter can be used when you are using the
adapter's external SCSI-2 connector.
3. If you plan to install both internal and external SCSI
devices, you must follow the instructions given in
“Connecting External Options” on page 293 in addition
to the instructions in this section.
4. If you connect devices to the internal or external
integrated SCSI connectors in a disk-array model, the
server might attempt to start from these non-disk-array
devices. Refer to your operating system documentation.
Termination (Internal SCSI Devices)
The devices at both ends of the SCSI bus must be terminated. If
you attach SCSI devices (internal or external), you must terminate
the last device in the chain.
When SCSI devices are chained, both ends of the chain (cable)
require a terminator. The purpose of these terminators is to ensure
that the quality of the signal is maintained throughout the SCSI
chain. If you attach SCSI devices (internal or external), you must
terminate the last device in the chain, or the end of the cable must
be terminated.
Note: All of the preinstalled hot-swappable drives in your server
have automatic termination.
If you attach internal SCSI devices to one of the SCSI-2 internal
connectors in a non-disk-array model, you must terminate the last
internal device on the bus (cable) and disable the termination on the
other devices connected to the internal SCSI controller. The SCSI-2
controller is already terminated.
