Installing Internal Drives
Installing a Drive in Bank D
Before you begin, be sure you have:
Purchased a hot-swap drive tray III for each hot-swappable
drive that you plan to install, and prepared the drive for
installation.
Opened the front cover (see “Preparing to Install Options”
on page 181 and “Preinstallation Steps (All Bays)” on
page 223). If you are installing or removing backplanes,
cables, the fan assembly, and adapters, also remove the side
cover.
Contacted an IBM reseller or IBM marketing representative
to order an additional 220-watt power supply for you, or
replace the existing power supply with an IBM PC Server
780W Redundant Power Option. Contact an IBM service
technician to install the power supply.
Purchased a hot-swap backplane to be installed at the rear of
bank D, as described in step 4 on page 242. (To order the
backplane, contact your IBM reseller or IBM marketing
representative.)
Ensured that the backplane address jumper J2 is set to “D.”
Removed the cardboard packing material from bank D.
Notes:
For non-disk-array models, you might need to install an
additional SCSI-2 adapter. To order, contact your IBM
reseller or IBM marketing representative.
In a disk-array model, banks C and D or D and E can be
daisy chained or linked together into a single SCSI-2
channel using the “daisy chain option” cable. However,
the SCSI ID jumper (J12) on one backplane must be set to
HI. (See the table under “Setting Backplane SCSI ID
Jumpers (J12)” on page 274.)
You can install up to three half-high drives or six
slim-high drives in each of banks C, D, and E.
