Diagnostic Tools Overview
Diagnostic Error Messages
Diagnostic error messages appear when a test program finds a
problem with a hardware option. Normally, these messages are
text, but they can be numeric. The test programs will generate one
of the following return codes:
0
A return code of “0” indicates that the device
passed its test.
1
A return code of “1” indicates that the device
failed its test.
2 or higher
A return code of “2” or higher indicates that the
test stopped.
Software-Generated Error Messages
These messages appear if a problem or conflict is found by an
application program, the operating system, or both. For an
explanation of these messages, refer to the information that came
with your software package.
ServeRAID Adapter Messages
These messages apply to disk-array models that have the IBM PC
ServeRAID Adapter. The messages are listed in alphabetic order in
“ServeRAID Adapter Messages” on page 338.
Troubleshooting Charts
The troubleshooting charts given in “Troubleshooting Charts” on
page 357 list symptoms of problems (for example, perhaps the
symptom is “the mouse is not working”), as well as steps to correct
the problems.
