Starting and stopping the 8335-GCA or 8335-GTA
Learn how to start and stop the IBM Power System S822LC (8335-GCA and 8335-GTA) system for
performing a service action or system upgrade.
Starting the system
You use the power button to start the system.
About this task
Attention:
For safety, airflow purposes and thermal performance, the service access cover must be
installed and fully seated prior to powering the system on.
Procedure
1.
Open the front rack door, if necessary.
2.
Before you press the power button, ensure that the power supplies are connected to the system unit
and verify the following items:
v
All system power cables are connected to a power source.
v
The Power-on LED, as shown in Figure 107, is flashing. A flashing light indicates standby power to
the unit.
3.
Press the power button shown in Figure 107. The power-on light stops flashing and remains on,
indicating that the system power is on. The system cooling fans are operate at a high speed, and after
approximately 30 seconds, return to operating speed.

If pressing the power button does not start the system, then contact your next level of support or your
service provider.
Stopping the system

Procedure
You can use the Linux
shutdown
command to stop and power down the system.
From Linux, run the following command to shut down the system in 10 minutes and send the message
“System shutdown in 10 minutes; repairs coming.” to the users.
