System-board switches
The following illustration shows the switches (buttons) on the system board.
Any switches or jumpers on the system board that are not shown in the illustration
are reserved.

Table 2 describes the function of each switch on the system board.

Reset
. When this button is pressed, it causes the server to reset the system board configuration and
restart. This button is effective only when power is connected to the server and the server is running.
Note:
Do not press this button unless explicitly directed to do so by IBM Service.

Power-on
. When this button is pressed, it functions the same as the power-control button on the front
of the server. Depending on the state of the server, press this button once to turn the server on or off,
or press the button for 4 seconds to force power off. This button is functional only when power is
connected to the server.

Clear CMOS
. When this button is pressed, it clears the CMOS data, which clears the user password.
This button is effective only when the server is connected to power but turned off.

NMI
. When this button is pressed, it issues a nonmaskable interrupt (NMI) to the server. This button is
effective only when power is connected to the server and the server is running.
Important:
1. Before pressing any button on the system board, follow the precautions in
“Working inside the server with the power on” on page 45.
2. Any system-board switch or jumper blocks that are not shown in the illustrations
in this document are reserved.
