Turning
on
the
storage
expansion
enclosure
Use
the
following
startup
sequence
to
turn
on
the
power
for
the
initial
startup
of
the
storage
expansion
enclosure:
1.
Verify
that:
v
All
communication
and
power
cables
are
plugged
into
the
back
of
the
storage
expansion
enclosure
and
all
power
cables
are
connected
to
an
ac
power
outlet.
v
All
hard
disk
drives
are
locked
securely
in
place.
v
The
enclosure
IDs
on
the
storage
expansion
enclosure
are
set
correctly.
(See
for
more
information.)
2.
Check
the
system
documentation
for
all
the
hardware
devices
you
intend
to
turn
on
and
determine
the
proper
startup
sequence.
Note:
Be
sure
to
turn
on
the
storage
expansion
enclosure
before
or
at
the
same
time
as
you
turn
on
the
storage
server.
3.
Turn
on
the
power
to
each
device,
based
on
the
startup
sequence.
Attention:
If
you
are
restarting
the
system
after
a
normal
shutdown,
wait
at
least
10
seconds
before
you
turn
on
the
power-supply
switches.
4.
Turn
on
both
power-supply
switches
on
the
back
of
the
unit.
The
storage
expansion
enclosure
might
take
a
few
seconds
to
turn
on.
During
this
time,
you
might
see
the
amber
and
green
LEDs
on
the
storage
expansion
enclosure
flash
intermittently.
When
the
startup
sequence
is
complete,
only
the
green
LEDs
on
the
front
and
back
are
lit.
If
other
amber
LEDs
remain
lit,
see
Note:
If
any
DS4000
EXP710
enclosures
are
present
in
the
drive
loop
and
the
DS4000
controller
firmware
is
not
at
version
6.10.xx.xx
or
higher,
the
Enclosure
ID
conflict
LED
on
the
DS4000
EXP710s
will
light
(even
if
the
Enclosure
ID
is
set
to
a
unique
value
among
the
storage
expansion
enclosures
and
the
DS4000
storage
server
in
the
same
drive
loop).
After
you
upgrade
the
controller
firmware
to
version
06.10.xx.xx,
the
Enclosure
ID
conflict
LED
will
become
unlit.
Turning
off
the
storage
expansion
enclosure
Use
this
procedure
to
turn
off
the
power
for
the
storage
expansion
enclosure.
Attention:
Except
in
an
emergency,
never
turn
off
the
power
if
any
Fault
LEDs
are
lit
on
the
storage
expansion
enclosure.
Correct
the
fault
before
you
turn
off
the
power,
using
the
proper
troubleshooting
or
servicing
procedure.
This
will
ensure
that
the
storage
expansion
enclosure
will
start
correctly
later.
The
storage
expansion
enclosure
is
designed
to
run
continuously.
After
you
turn
on
the
storage
expansion
enclosure,
do
not
turn
it
off.
Turn
off
the
power
only
in
the
following
situations:
v
Instructions
in
a
hardware
or
software
procedure
require
that
you
turn
off
the
power.
v
An
IBM
technical-support
representative
instructs
you
to
turn
off
the
power.
v
A
power
outage
or
