Mounting Originals on the External Drum
7. Check for dirt and hairs.
Note: Newton’s rings may be visible but these
are not normally reproduced on the

Mounting a
Reflection Copy
Balance Point
As with the Quick
Mount
drum, for reflection copy
scanning a piece of reference white paper (about
1
1
/
2
cm square) is required as a balance point. This
should be mounted on an area of the drum which is
unlikely to be needed for originals. Once you have
chosen the position you should always use exactly
the same place. This point can then be used by
Scan
Xact
time and time again as the default balance
point for reflection copy scanning.
The reference white should be mounted under the
same type of overlay film used to mount originals.
This automatically allows for any effect that the
presence of the overlay film has on the light reflected
from the original.
