ID-AL - My Music Player and My Music Player LE - User Guide V1.0
. Establishing the Wired Connection
If your are not familiar with the Ethernet network vocabulary please read the section Ethernet Network
Glossary (page 53) that follows this chapter.
Hardware connection
1. Be sure that the player is powered off.
2. Plug an Ethernet cable from the local network access (switch or router) to the player RJ45 Ethernet
port (Please refer to Hardware Description (page 11))
3. Switch on the player.
In order to obtain all network functions of the player, it is necessary to know whether your network supports
DHCP.
Automatic connections with DHCP
If the network supports DHCP, then the player may already be set up for online access. To check point,
simply open a web browser and try to access to the web server of the player as referred into Web server
(page 73).
If the player is still not online after the following steps, try to set up the network connection manually using a
static IP address.
Manual configuration with static address
If the network does not support DHCP, it is necessary to get information about the network before the player
can get online. If these information are unknown, then contact the local network administrator or the IPS
(Internet Service Provider)..
•
An IP address: is a unique address used to identify the player within the network. An IP address is
always given with four numbered groups, separated by dots, for example:
192.168.100.10
. Once
the player is connected using DHCP, this address will periodically change (explaining the word
“dynamic”). Nevertheless, if the player is configured with a static IP address, the IP address will
never change.
•
A network mask: indicates to the player the size of the network to which it is being connected. It is
formatted the same way as the IP address but usually looks like
255.255.255.0
.
•
A gateway: is the IP address of the device that the player looks for an access to the Internet, usually
the router’s IP address.
•
DNS server: is the IP address of the DNS (Domain Name Service) server. DNS is what the player
uses to resolve the access to the IP addresses with the domain names. It allows to the player to
access to the FTP, NTP and Webradio servers directly with their domain names. For example
https://www.wikipedia.org
refers to the IP address
208.80.154.224
(IP address of the
Wikipedia website on the Internet). DNS is used and that is not necessary to record the IP
addresses. Domain names (like
wikipedia.org
) are much easier to use. It is needed at least one
DNS server address but it is possible to setup up to two addresses in case one server is unavailable.
To manually configure a wired connection without an access to the web server of the player, please refer to
Front Panel User Interface (page 67) then open a web browser and try to access to the web server of the
player as referred into Web server (page 73).
. Identify the player on the network
To access to the embedded web and FTP servers of the player, it is necessary to identify the network
address of the player on the Ethernet network. Several methods are available to addressing the player,
depending to the nature of the network:
