With the unit switch (9) on the bottom side of the device you can select the unit of the weight display.
Set the switch to the desired setting (kg = Kilogram; Lb = Pound; St = Stone und Pound/Stone).
WHAT IS BIA?
BIA stands for „Bioelectrical impedance analysis“.
With this method, body fat, water and muscle percentage, as well as bone mass can be determined. The
body constitution is measured through a weak current, going out from the foot electrodes, which flows
through the body and measures the resistance (bioelectric impedance) of the given body masses. This
current is not noticeable by humans.
With additional data like height, gender, age and weight the scale can determine the fat, muscle and bone
percentage.
ADVANTAGES OF BIA
Since the body weight alone is not a sufficient or reliable indicator for one’s state of health, the BIA provides
more values that can give a better picture of what has been changing in the body. For example, body weight
of a sportsman consists mostly of muscle mass. Although such people are often a bit heavier, in the majority
of cases they are healthier than e.g. a person on a diet.
Short-term changes of body weight concern mostly the water percentage, whereas medium- to long-term
changes concern fat and muscle percentage.
The BIA method facilitates keeping track of the changes of body fat and gives you information about how fit
you are.
DISPLAYING BODY FAT, MUSCLE, WATER AND BONE PERCENTAGE
1.
Position the scale as described above.
2.
Switch the scale on and with the
buttons select the storing space (P0 – P9, PA, Pb). If any results
had been stored before (through the antecedent weighing process), they will be shown again and the
LCD display will switch to 0.0 after a short period.
3. Step
barefoot in the middle of the scale. Make sure that your feet touch both measuring electrodes (5, 6).
4.
The scale starts calculating your data. The weight will become constant at one point, and body fat, water,
muscle and bone percentage will be shown four times (4x) alternately before the scale switches off.
5.
On the display there are three indicators which categorise body fat.
Underfat / Healthy/ Overfat.
6.
Should there be a need to repeat the weighing process, switch the scale on again and repeat the
process. The results shown before will reappear on the display.
INFORMATION ON THE DISPLAY OF THE RESULTS
The results are shown in the display for 26.4 seconds.
The body weight is constantly displayed, while the values for body fat and muscle mass as well as those for
water content and bone mass are each displayed for 3.3 seconds. All values are displayed four times.
RELIABILITY OF THE RESULTS
The body fat analysis is based on a standardised measuring method developed in an extensive research.
Measurements are influenced by particular water entrapment in very low-fat tissues, individual habits or:
a.
after taking a shower/bath (values are often lower):
b.
after eating or drinking (values are often higher):
c.
during menstruation (values strongly fluctuate);
d.
moisture loss through illness or stress, connected with strong sweating.
IMPORTANT TIPS REGARDING THE EVALUATION OF RESULTS
The calculated percentage of water and fat is for reference purposes only. The external appearance of the
body not necessarily has to imply the fat and water percentage. Also, persons with similar appearance, of the
same age and gender can obtain totally different results. Please consult your doctor to determine the proper
fat and water percentage for you.
