1.1 POOLS AND OTHER CONCRETE BASINS / MEDIUM AND LARGE FORMAT CERAMIC TILES,
GLASS, MARBLE, AND NATURAL STONE
The installation of STARRY SKY in pools clad with ceramic tiles—other than mosaic pieces—glass sheets or tiles, marble
and other natural stones, is the most effective technique to display the magic of fiber optics underwater.
Due to the very small profile and neutral color of the fiber when unlit, the points are not visible in daytime, as opposed
to systems using large metallic fixtures, which are apparent at all times. The spatial effect is particularly enhanced with
dark tiles, marbles or granites. The sharp contrast between the darkness of the surround and the bright points gives the
user a space-walk sensation.
Although drilling through hard materials can be costly and time consuming, installing the fibers in the joints should never
be contemplated if a starry effect is sought. When fibers are surfaced through the joints, in particular those between large
ceramic tiles, the random effect is lost. (Fig 1) The distribution becomes repetitive and points aligned on the same axes
become apparent.
From different viewpoints, the fibers lay in straight lines, (Fig 2) creating unsightly effects. The only exception to the pre-
vious advice is when the design seeks a regular distribution of the fibers (Fig 3) & (Fig 4). Though patterns with the fibers
set between tiles can be very elegant, the effect is that of a grid, not a starry sky.

La instalación de STARRY SKY en piscinas forradas de piezas cerámicas (excepto mosaico) planchas o placas de vidrio,
mármol y otras piedras naturales es la técnica más efectiva para mostrar la magia de las fibras ópticas sumergidas.
Debido al bajo perfil y color neutro de las fibras apagadas, al contrario de sistemas que utilizan apliques metálicos visi-
bles a cualquier hora, los puntos no son aparentes durante el día. El efecto espacial se multiplica con revestimientos de
cerámica, mármoles o granitos oscuros. El acusado contraste entre la oscuridad del agua y los brillantes puntos de fibra
crea en el usuario una sensación de paseo espacial.
A pesar de que taladrar materiales rígidos y duros puede ser costoso y lento, nunca se debe contemplar la instalación
de fibras en las llagas si se persigue un efecto de cielo estrellado. Cuando las fibras afloran en las llagas, en particular
si las piezas cerámicas son de gran formato, se pierde el efecto aleatorio. (Fig 1) La distribución se hace repetitiva y los
puntos alineados en los mismos ejes se hacen aparentes. Desde puntos de vista diferentes, las fibras se alinean (Fig 2)
y producen regularidades no deseadas. La única excepción al consejo anterior es cuando el diseño persigue la distri-
bución regular de los puntos (Fig 3) y (Fig 4). Aunque los patrones con fibras aflorando regularmente entre las baldosas
puede ser muy elegante, el efecto es el de trama, no firmamento. The cured self-leveling screed should be completely
