While you are in a holding pattern, the CDI/HSI
cross-track deviation display and the TO/FROM
flag will behave almost exactly the way they would
if you were holding at a VOR. The TO/FROM flag
will display “TO” prior to reaching the waypoint.
The TO/FROM flag will display “FROM” after
crossing the waypoint. TO and FROM is determined
by position relative to a line drawn perpendicular to
the selected inbound course and through the
waypoint. The CDI will indicate “fly-left” if the
aircraft is to the right of the desired track with
reference to the selected inbound course. The CDI
will indicate “fly-right” if the aircraft is to the left of
the desired track with reference to the selected
inbound
course.
As
with
traditional
VOR
navigation, these indications are always related to
the aircraft position and not to the heading or
direction of flight.
