Whatisanarpeggiator?Musicistypicallybasedaroundchordprogressions.Thesemaynotbepresentedinan
obviously“chordal”waywhenthenotesofthechordarenotplayedtogethersimultaneously.Forexample,think
ofaguitaristplayingwithfingerpickingandusingintricatepluckstocreateamorecomplexpattern.Oftenthe
patternisstillbasedonsimplechordshapes.Anarpeggiatortakesadvantageofthisfact,anditprovidessynth
playerswithaneasywayofplayingcomplexsynthpartsviasimplechords.
Switchingonanarpeggiatortellsthesynthto“listen”tothenotesbeingplayed,thenitcreatesapatternusing
thesenoteswhichisplayedatthemastertemposoallthatisrequiredoftheplayeristoholdthenotes.Orifthe
arpeggiatorhasa“latch”function,justplaythechordonce,andthepatternwillcontinuetoplayuntilanother
noteorchordisplayed.Simple.
