IEEE 1394 (FireWire) External DVD-R/RW Installation
If your computer has no built-in IEEE 1394 (FireWire) port, you will first need to install an IEEE 1394 (FireWire) PCI card.
Please refer to IEEE 1394 (FireWire) PCI card Installation.
You need to connect your new Ikebana™ IEEE 1394 External DVD-R/RW product to your computer prior to running the
installation software. Please follow these simple steps to setup your new product:
1) Power down your computer and unplug it from the AC outlet.
NOTE:
If you proceed without doing this, you
run the risk of receiving an electric shock and/or short-circuiting and damaging the components.
2) Connect the female end of the supplied power cord into your external AC power supply.
3) Connect the 4-pin power connector into your IEEE 1394 (FireWire) External DVD-R/RW product with the flat
side facing up.
4) Press the Power Switch on the drive’s back panel to turn the product on.
Important Note
: Make sure LEDs
on the front panel light up when you press the Power Switch.
5) Connect either IEEE 1394 (FireWire) port on the drive’s rear panel to an IEEE 1394 (FireWire) port on the
computer using the supplied IEEE 1394 (FireWire) interface cable (with a 6-pin connector at each end).
Important Note
: The IEEE 1394 (FireWire) standard defines the maximum cable length of a single interface
cable as 4.5 meters. Bear this in mind if you are using an interface cable longer than the supplied cable.
6) Reconnect the computer to the electrical outlet and turn on the computer.
Verifying the Hardware Installation
After connecting the IEEE 1394 (FireWire) PCI card and Ikebana™ IEEE 1394 External DVD-R/RW product to the
computer, you can verify that the drive and the interface card are correctly recognized from your computer.
Make sure that IEEE 1394 (FireWire) PCI card and Ikebana™ IEEE 1394 External DVD-R/RW product are recognized by
the operating system.
From the Windows 98 Second Edition’s [Start] menu, select [Settings] – [Control Panel] and open the [System] control
panel. In the [System Properties] window, select the [Device Manager] tab. If you can find a new Disk Drive Icon
(Ikebana™), an IEEE 1394 / FireWire® bus controller icon, and SBP2 icon, you have successfully installed both the drive
and the IEEE 1394 interface card as Windows OS recognizes both devices.
