one. This ensures proper operation. The use of soap or water-based
petroleum jelly will help with installation. Note that proper placement
on the gear results in a squeeze on the arms. This is the correct
installation.
8. Ensure that the gasket surfaces are smooth and clean. Place a
gasket/o-ring between the housing and the cover. Reinstall with the
fasteners loosened with the face plate that was removed earlier. Do not
overtighten the fasteners as it will cause them to break.
9. Reinstall the raw water pump housing back onto the engine or bracket,
and replace the serpentine belt. Reconnect the intake and outflow
hoses.
FLUSH THE COOLERS
NOTICE: Marine growth occurs in brackish and salt water, and even in
what is referred to as “fresh” or salt-free water. Therefore, it is important
to flush the boat’s cooling system with fresh water after each use.
Accelerated marine growth occurs when operated in salt water. This makes
it critical to flush the cooling system with fresh water after each use. This
fresh water flushing can be done with the boat either in or out of the water.
Contact your local authorized Ilmor High-Performance Marine service
center to determine the best method to flush your engine coolers after each
use as each boat/engine installation may vary.
REPLACE THE SERPENTINE BELT
NOTE: A properly installed serpentine belt will be automatically adjusted
by the belt tensioner. When the belt is off, attention should also be given
to the quality of wear of the grooves on the underside of the belt where it
makes contact with the pulleys. If you are unsure of the wear pattern, check
against a new belt. If there is any uncertainty, seek assistance from your
authorized Ilmor High-Performance Marine service center. If the belt is too
loose and or is too tight, it will cause the electrical system to malfunction.
This could occur during an outing and strand the boaters. Therefore, take this
maintenance function very seriously.
NOTICE: If the serpentine belt comes off or wears through, catastrophic
engine failure may occur. Do not operate the engine without a properly
installed serpentine belt. Any resulting damage will not be covered by
the warranty.
1. The serpentine belt is located on the front of the engine.
2. Using a 15 mm socket wrench, remove tension from the belt by moving
the tensioner to its maximum travel position.
3. Remove the serpentine belt by unwrapping it from each of the pulleys.
