Check the distance between the needle and the
hook point. The hook point should be lightly
touching or brushing the needle inside the
needle scarf.
NOTE
: Too much needle-to-hook distance or an incorrect loop lift setting may cause thread
shredding and/or skipped stitches. If the needle-to-hook distance is too little, the needle will rub
on the hook needle guard on the bobbin case basket and cause unnecessary hook noise and/or
wear. This is a very precise setting and is set to rub only about .001-inch (one thousandth of an
inch or less.

Check needle bar height. When the hook point reaches the far side of the needle, the bottom of the
hook point is 1mm above the top of the needle eye.
NOTE
: In 99% of cases, needle bar height does not slip. If it is off, it was changed or improperly
set by a technician. The first thing an inexperienced technician will do is change the needle bar
height. If you think the needle bar height is off, it likely it is not off and more likely that you have
done something wrong during the timing process. Needle bar height is discussed further in the
next section after timing.
