organized and directional way when the needle is out of the fabric. The needle is not subject to being
moved around by the fabric.
However, with quilting machines the fabric can move the needle in multiple directions because the
quilting is being done in multiple directions. Quilting machines need more assurance that the hook point
will still enter the loop to create a stitch and not skip stitches or shred thread. Quilting machines need
a more assurance that the hook point will still enter the loop to create a stitch and not skip stitches or
shred thread. The needle guard on the hook helps to prevent the fabric from pushing the needle into
the expensive hook point and protects the hook from damage. Additionally, HQ Infinity uses the 134 MR
needle system (crank needle) which helps to prevent the needle from being deflected too far away from
the hook as fabric pushes the needle, especially at the high stitching speeds (up to 3100 SPM).
Stop Finger
The stop finger holds the bobbin case basket from turning and provides an escapement gap for the top
needle thread to complete its loop around the bobbin case thread to form each lock stitch into the fabric.
If the stop finger is too tight or close to the basket, the thread will hang up on it. If the stop finger is too
loose or too far away from the basket, the basket may spin out of place and be damaged by a needle
collision. The basket will also be noisier if the stop finger is set too loose or too far away from the basket.
NOTE
: On the HQ Infinity, the machined
edge that supports the stop finger is on the
right, not the left side as on other Handi
Quilter machines.
