Supported disc types
You can play the following discs on your TV/DVD
combo:
DVD region code
All DVD video playback systems have Region
Playback Control (RPC) management which is
required by the movie industry and defined by
the DVD Forum. You can only play DVDs with
the same region code as your DVD player.
The region code for a DVD is usually marked on
the DVD package.
The region code for your TV/DVD combo is 1.
MPEG-4
Your TV/DVD combo supports the MPEG-4
standard.
The MPEG-4 format is the forth video and audio
encoding standard released by MPEG (Moving
Pictures Experts Group). The VCD format is
based on MPEG-1 technology and the DVD
format is based on MPEG-2. MPEG-4 takes
advantage of a narrow bandwidth and generates
the good picture quality by compressing and
transmiting the data in frame reconstruct
technology.
The audio data is compressed by the WMA or
MP3 standard. MPEG-4 is the most advanced
compression technology standard in the
audio/video field. It has the highest compression
rate. Using the compression feature of MPEG-4
technology:
•
A DVD film can be compressed to fit on one
or two CD-R discs with good picture quality
•
Several films with the quality of a VCD can be
compressed to fit on one CD-R.
•
Several files with DVD quality can be
compressed to fit on one DVD-ROM.
Notes:
•
MPEG-4 discs come in different formats,
such as XVID, AVI, DivX, and RM. However,
some discs with the MPEG-4 logo are not
encoded by MPEG technology. Your
TV/DVD combo cannot play some of these
discs because of the incorrect encoding
standard.
•
The MPEG-4 discs use different types of
subtitles. Your TV/DVD combo may not be
able to play some of these subtitles.
•
Your TV/DVD combo supports the WMA
format as a single audio file or associated
with a DivX5 or Xvid video file.
•
GMC is supported with DivX5 files, but not
with Xvid files.
