The Intel
®
Server Board SE7500WV2 includes an embedded Intel
82546EB network interface controller. The 82546EB
is a highly integrated two-channel PCI-X LAN controller that supports 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps operation on
both channels simultaneously. Each individual network interface controller can be independently enabled or disabled
through the BIOS setup menu.
The 82546EB controller also provides the following features:
•
64-bit, 133-MHz PCI-X bus master interface
•
Integrated IEEE 802.3 10Base-T, 100Base-TX and 1000Base-TX compatible PHY
•
IEEE 820.3u auto-negotiation support
•
Full-duplex support at 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps and 1000 Mbps operation
•
Network adapter teaming:
−
Adapter fault tolerance (AFT) provides automatic redundancy for up to eight network adapters.
−
Preferred primary adapter designates one adapter as the Preferred Primary.
•
Adaptive load balancing (ALB) balances network traffic between two or more network adapters; AFT occurs
automatically.
•
Cisco Fast EtherChannel*
(
An implementation of ALB) allows increased transmission rates in both directions.
Note
: When implementing adapter teaming and ALB the preferred configuration is to use the primary onboard NIC for
management functions and to use the secondary onboard NIC and additional add-in NICs for the team.
Two onboard 8-pin, RJ-45 Ethernet connectors provide physical network connectivity. Each of the RJ-45 connectors
includes a pair of status LEDs, the link/activity LED and the operating speed LED. The state of the individual LED
indicates the following:
•
The link/activity LED
−
Solid green: an active network connection is present
−
Blinking green: data transmit/receive activity
•
Speed LED:
−
Off: 10 Mbps operation
−
Solid amber: 100 Mbps operation
−
Solid green: 1000 Mbps operation
