The National Semiconductor PC87417 SuperI/O* device also provides support for two serial ports with the following
characteristics:
•
The first serial port is made available by attaching a DH-10 to DB-9 cable to the 9-pin internal header located at
jumper J9A2, and then routing the cable to the rear of the chassis. The Intel
®
Server Chassis SR2300 provides a
knockout on the back of the chassis to allow access to the DB-9 connector.
•
The second serial port can be accessed through an onboard 8-pin, RJ-45 serial port at the back of the board.
•
The rear interface to the second serial port is designed to support serial concentrators using RJ-45 connectors. This
interface can also support an external modem through an RJ-45 to DB-9 adapter. The rear serial connector also
provides emergency management port (EMP) support.
•
An RJ-45 to DB-9 adapter is required to connect a modem to the rear serial port.
Note:
The DH-10 to DB-9 serial cable and an RJ-45 to DB-9 adapter set are available in the optional serial port adapter
and cable accessory kit.
