Installing the Battery Backup Module
You must follow the instruction sequence in this section to avoid damage to the MegaRAID controller
board. Do not connect the battery pack to the battery backup module before attaching the battery
backup module to the MegaRAID controller.
WARNING
Personal injury may result if the battery terminals contact a conductive surface. Do not place
the battery backup module or the MegaRAID controller on a conductive surface while attaching
the battery or after the battery is attached.
To prepare the MegaRAID controller:
1. Use a quarter-inch nutdriver to remove the screw that secures the MegaRAID controller board to
the system chassis. Retain the screw. See the following figure.
If you are installing the MegaRAID controller for the first time, remove it from its antistatic bag.
2. Place the MegaRAID controller on a flat, clean, static-free surface.
3. Remove the four jumpers from J19, as shown in the following figure.

To attach the battery backup module:
1. Remove the battery backup module from its antistatic bag.
2. Insert a large 4-40 screw through a washer and through the hole in the battery backup module. See
the following figure:
3. Thread the standoff on the screw, and tighten the standoff to the battery backup module. See the
following figure.
NOTE
There are two connectors on the battery backup module, J6 and J5. Two matching connectors, J21
and J19, are on the MegaRAID controller board.
4. Align the battery backup module with the MegaRAID controller and attach connectors J6 and J5 to
J21 and J19 on the MegaRAID controller. See the following figure.
5. Insert a screw through a washer and through the mounting hole of the MegaRAID controller board.
Thread the screw onto the standoff and tighten the screw. See the following figure.
