Windows, Storage Devices, and Memory
In a PEN*KEY 6000 Series system, the software (DOS, Windows, and the apĆ
plication) is loaded into RAM from a disk device. The standard desktop/laptop
PC system, shown in Figure BĆ2, has 4 MB of RAM and a hard disk drive. The
software components and application data are stored on the hard drive.

The application and all (DOS, Windows) software components are loaded from
the hard drive into RAM, as indicated by arrows in the diagram. The Work
Space" is part of RAM used by the system for shortĆterm storage of information.
