Chapter 12
12. Ribbon Low Sensor
12.1 Description
As an option, the EasyCoder 501 XP and 601 XP can be fi tted
with a sensor, that detect the rotation of the ribbon supply hub and
updates a counter. By means of a custom-made application pro-
gram, the counter can be read and used to detect ribbon-low condi-
tions (as opposed to out-of-ribbon conditions, which are supported
by the standard error handling).
On the ribbon supply hub is a code disc with 41 gaps. When the
hub rotates, the photoelectric sensor detects when the light is inter-
rupted and decrements a counter. At startup, the counter is set to
a random value of approximately 65,000 and can be read using
SYSVAR(13), see Intermec Fingerprint v7.61, Programmer’s Ref-
erence Manual.
The sensor requires no regular cleaning. However, should any mal-
function be detected, blow the sensor clear from dust or media
residue before deciding to replace it.
The sensitivity of this sensor cannot be adjusted.
