Manual Parking Brake Adjustment
As the efficiency of the Manual Parking
Brakes can be affected by tyre wear on
the rear drive wheels, adjustment is
made available on each Brake Mounting
Bracket. Fig.32.
NOTE: Care must be taken to maintain
correct alignment of the Brake
Mechanism, when carrying out this
adjustment, as incorrect positioning
could result in the Brake Mechanism
being ineffective, or fouling the Drive
wheel tyre.
Tools Required:-
“T” 5mm Hexagon Key.
With the Brake lever set in the fully
“OFF” (rearward) position, slacken
both screws on the Manual Brake
Mounting Clamp, just sufficiently to
enable the Brake mechanism to be re-set.
Re-position the Brake mechanism to give
19mm (¾")
clearance between the
Brake Bar and the tyre. Avoid moving the Mounting Clamp from it’s original
position.
With the Brake mechanism held in this position and while ensuring the Brake
Bar is at 90° to the tyre, retighten both Brake Mounting Clamp screws, sufficiently
to prevent any movement. Repeat this procedure for the opposite side.
Apply both Parking Brakes before setting the wheelchair Drive Mode Lever to
“Free wheel” (rearward direction), then confirm that it is not possible to move the
wheelchair with only the Parking Brakes applied.
Checking security of Rear
Drive Wheels.
(Fig.33)
Tools Required:-
Suitable Torque Wrench and socket with
6mm Hexagon Bit.
13mm Spanner.
Security of the Rear Drive Wheels,
should be checked at 6 monthly
intervals, (more frequently may be
required for very heavy users).
Failure to do so, could result in
premature wear of the wheel mounting
holes and motor drive flanges.
Screws should be tightened evenly
to 27Nm (20ft/lbs), whilst holding the
corresponding nuts at the rear of the
wheel with a spanner. DO NOT
OVERTIGHTEN.
