Checking the Front Castor Forks and
Wheels
With the wheels lifted clear of the ground,
check the Castor Forks for excess
movement in the swivel bearings and for
smooth turning.
This is important
—
as unsmooth turning
by the Castor Wheels can seriously affect

manoeuvring.
Also check that the Castor Wheels spin
freely and without axial run-out. Fig.34
If there is any doubt about the
movement in either the Castor Forks
or the Wheels, contact your repairing
agent as soon as possible.
Checking the Drive Motor Brushes
It is recommended that after the first 12
months of use, the Drive Motor Brushes
should be checked by your service
agent and thereafter at
6 monthly
intervals to maintain peak Motor
performance.
Each Drive Motor is fitted with two
Brushes, however, as access to the
inner Brush Retaining Cap is limited by
the Battery Carrier Frame, inspection of
the outer Motor Brushes should give an
indication of the wear on both Brushes.
Tools Required:-
Flat-bladed Screwdriver,
(blade width = 4 to 6mm).
To inspect the outer Brushes, unscrew
the Brush Retaining Caps, Fig.35 and
withdraw the Brushes from their holders.
Measure the length of each Brush to
ensure that they exceed the minimum
length of 10mm. If less than 10mm
replace Brushes at this time. Fig.36
NOTE: Both Brushes must be replaced
at the same time, on each Motor.
Replacement of the inner Brushes will
require removal of the complete Motor.
