Reformatting Tapes

Old tapes and tapes that are generating too many errors should be
bulk-erased and reformatted using your software format options.
Erasing tapes with a commercial-grade bulk eraser is the best way to
ensure that your tape is ready for reformatting.  Commercial-grade
bulk erasers are available at many computer dealers.

Cleaning Read/Write Head

After approximately every twenty-five hours of operation, clean the
read/write head with a foam swab (do not use a cotton swab)
moistened in pharmaceutical grade isopropyl alcohol (make sure that
the alcohol has no additives such as lanolin).  Push open the tape
access door, locate the head, and wipe the head up and down (not
sideways) as illustrated below using very light pressure.
