remove the key BEFORE leaving the seat.
When adjustments are being made or
attachments are being fitted to the tractor
or implement (whether at the front or rear
of the tractor), the operator must ensure
that all persons are well clear before op-
erating the hydraulics.
Use caution on hillsides and rough
ground
Keep speed to a minimum.
Avoid sudden uphill turns on steep
slopes.
Always keeps the tractor in gear to
provide engine braking when going down-
hill.
Avoid sudden or heavy brake applica-
tions when operating in wet, muddy or icy
ground conditions or on loose surfaces
such as sand or gravel.
Sudden or heavy braking during turns
increases the tendency to oversteer. This
effect is more pronounced with trailed
equipment and can lead to jack-knifing
when towing a trailer.
Four wheel drive provides greatly in-
creased traction over two wheel drive.
Extra caution is needed on steep slopes
Keep a firm grip on the steering wheel
at all times, with the thumbs clear of the
spokes when driving the tractor.
When a cab or ROPS is fitted, if the
tractor overturns, hold the steering wheel
firmly and do not attempt to leave the seat
until the tractor has come to rest.
If the doors are obstructed, leave the
cab through the rear window or hatch.
Fig. 21: Performance of driver when over-
turning
When making in-work adjustments,
bring the tractor to a secure halt, apply the
parking brake, disengage the PTO, select
neutral gearshift positions, lower the im-
plement to the ground, stop the engine and
if four wheel drive is fitted since traction
will be maintained on steeper slopes, in-
creasing the possibility of overturning.
Fig. 22: Driving on steep slopes
Engage low gear when descending
steep hills. If four wheel drive is fitted,
select it for four wheel braking effect
when the tractor is in gear.
If a Multi-power gearbox is fitted, the
high range must be selected to provide en-
gine braking.
Power Take Off (PTO)
When stopping any PTO drive on a ma-
chine, idle the engine to reduce the PTO
