SNMP
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), the most widely-used network management protocol on
TCP/IP-based networks, is used for collecting information from /and configuring, network devices, such
as servers, printers, hubs, switches, and routers on an Internet Protocol (IP) network.

The administrative framework for SNMPv2 associates each message with a "community". So, SNMP Ver 2
is commonly known as "Community-based SNMPv2 (SNMPv2C)" [2]. A security shortcoming of SNMP v2c
is that the community strings used for authentication are communicated in cleartext over the network and
can potentially be captured while in transit.
