For aircraft equipped with landing lights (both N-VFR and VFR types) the light requires a large
amount of power which can exceed the alternator capacity in some situations. When the engine
is turning at approximately 2000 RPM and above the alternator produces sufficient power for all
electrical equipment to be run continuously. Below this RPM the alternator may not produce
sufficient power and energy must be drawn from the battery if all lights and electrical systems are
running.
To reduce the load on the alternator and maintain the battery at peak voltage, Jabiru Aircraft
recommend only using the Landing Light for takeoff and landing
– turning it off during normal cruise
operations and wherever safe while taxiing.
