TROUBLESHOOTING
5.1 GENERAL ________________________________________________________________
The troubleshooting chart below lists basic problems that may occur during start-up and operation. For more detailed
information regarding the hydraulic and electrical systems contact your area Jacobsen Dealer.
Symptoms
Possible Causes
Action
Engine will not start.
1.
Parking brake disengaged, traction
pedal not in Neutral, or mow switch
ON.
1.
Check interlock system and start-up procedure.
2.
Glow plug has not timed out.
2.
Reset ignition switch and allow glow plug to time out
before cranking engine.
3.
Battery low on charge or defective.
3.
Inspect condition of battery and battery connections.
4.
Fuel tank empty or dirty.
4.
Fill with fresh fuel. Change fuel filter. Bleed fuel
lines.
5.
Fuse blown.
5.
Replace fuse.
6.
Relay defective.
6.
Test and replace relay.
7.
Neutral switch on traction pedal out of
adjustment or defective.
7.
Adjust or replace switch.
Engine hard to start
or runs poorly.
1.
Fuel level low, fuel or fuel filter dirty.
1.
Fill with fresh fuel. Change fuel filter. Bleed fuel lines.

Air cleaner dirty.

Inspect and replace air filter.

Injectors, fuel pump.

Inspect and add coolant.

Decks cut unevenly.
1.
Height of Cut not adjusted correctly.
Inspect height of cut adjustment. Same number of
spacers below deck housing on all spindles.

Engine speed too low.
Check engine speed. Run engine at full throttle.

Mow speed not adjusted for turf
conditions.
Adjust mow speed for best cut.
