10.5 NEUTRAL ADJUSTMENT ___________________________________________________
The mower must not move with the steering control levers in the Neutral position and the parking brake disengaged.
The neutral adjustment must be done separately for the left and right side axles.
To adjust the neutral position:
1.
Lift the mower so the rear wheels are off the ground. Disengage the
left side control linkage from the control arm.
2.
Start the engine, move the throttle lever to the fast position and disengage the parking brake. Note if the left rear
wheel rotates and the direction the wheel rotates. Engage the parking brake and stop the engine. Do not adjust
the neutral setting with the engine running.

If the wheel does not rotate, proceed with
Step 5
.

If the wheel does rotate, proceed with
Step 3
.
3.
Loosen the neutral screw and rotate the control arm 5° in the opposite direction that the wheel turned. Tighten
the neutral screw.
4.
Start the engine and check the neutral adjustment. Repeat
Step 3
until the wheel does not rotate.
5.
Torque the neutral screw to 180 in. lb. (15 ft. lb.) (20 Nm). Connect the left side control linkage to the control arm.
6.
Repeat the adjustment procedure on the right side axle.
WARNING
Make sure the mower is parked on a solid and level surface. Never
work on a mower that is supported only by the jack. Always use jack
stands. Put chocks in front of and behind the front wheels.
To prevent injury, do not adjust the neutral setting with the engine
running.
CAUTION
When you check the drive axle neutral adjustment, the rear wheels may turn. To prevent injury, use caution to
prevent contact with the wheels.
