Method of use
Before filling the spa, first remove the cartridge filter inserted in
the skimmer, as the filtering action is guaranteed by the spa-pak.
I
After having reassembled the covering panels and filled the spa
according to the instructions provided in the relevant manual, bring
the selector valve lever to the
“BACKWASH”
position (back-
washing of the sand with "throwaway" water).
I
Power up the system to activate the pump and leave it running
for 2-3 minutes.
Where the spa water level falls below the skimmer, imme-
diately stop the pump and top up the water to the correct
level.
I
Stop the pump and place the selector valve in the
“RINSE”
position (rinsing of sand with disposable water).
I
Turn the pump back on and leave it running for about 30 seconds.
I
Stop the pump once again, re-check the spa water level and
bring the valve lever to the
“FILTRATION”
position: at this stage,
the filter system is ready for normal operation.
Maintenance
To clean the quartz sand filter, you will periodically need to per-
form backwashing based on the information provided by the
gauge located on the selector valve.
I
You will need to note the pressure indicated on the gauge dur-
ing system start-up, or at the end of a backwash period. This value
varies depending on the type of system and the length of the pipes
in the system, and is normally less than one atm. When this value
rises to 0.2 atm above the initial value, you must perform back-
washing of the filter.
I
To perform backwashing, power off the system, and set the
selector valve to
“BACKWASH”.
Then activate the pump by pow-
ering up the system.
Make sure that any valves
(v)
installed on the connection pipes
(
i
1
) are open.
I
After a few minutes, once the drainage water is clean, refill the
spa with the correct level of water and restore normal operating
conditions
(power off, set selector valve lever to "FILTER" and
power up the system).
Constantly monitor the water level of the spa during
this phase (discharge) because if it drops below the
skimmer, the pump runs dry and may be damaged.
Never perform any tasks on the selector valve without
first disconnecting the power supply to the system.
I
At the end of the season
(when the spa is no longer going to
be used)
, you must empty the filter, the pump and the pipes that
connect the spa-pak to the skimmer line.
To empty the filter, just remove the plug from the drain valve
located at the bottom (
i
3 - 25
). To empty the pump, you must
first disconnect the pipes. If the pipes that connect the
spa-pak to
the spa are external, it should be enough to disconnect them
from the pump and filter. If instead they are underground, you will
need to have placed drain valves at the lowest point,
i
25,
detail L
).
NOTE: if the spa-pak is installed outdoors in areas where
the temperature may drop below freezing, it is advisable
to remove the filter from the base (after draining out the
water) and to place it somewhere protected from freezing.
I
The sand in the filter needs to be changed when good water filter-
ing is no longer provided. This is indicated by the need to increase the
frequency of backwashing of the filters. Deterioration of the sand is
mainly attributable to water hardness, but also to certain contaminants
that may cause cementing of the filtering material.
Generally speaking, the sand may need to be changed every two
to four years, if the spa is used by the family and with water hard-
ness of 25 °F.
