4.1 Device description
Active Harmonics Filters (AHF for 3-/4-lead connection) from the AHF series are suitable
for dynamic compensation of harmonics currents, inductive and capacitive reactive power
components, and for the balancing of circuits with asymmetrical loads. Low-feedback and
low-loss operation is achieved by means of a 3-level topology and a high clock frequency.
Furthermore, the AHF enables easy integration into existing low-voltage networks by
means of intelligent resonance detection (intelligent FFT).
Their modular system makes AHFs suitable for easy adaptation to modified network and
load conditions. They are characterized by a freely configurable compensation rate for each
individual harmonic (even and odd-numbered), compensation of the neutral conductor cur-
rent in the 3-wire system with N-conductor and by automatic mains frequency detection.
The compensation strategy can be modified during ongoing operation. The configurable
standby operation in dependence on the voltage distortion (THD) and/or the imbalance
as well as an automatic restart after a voltage loss all ensure reliable operation of the AHF
power quality controller.
The suppression of harmonics currents requires the connection of an external current
transformer (referred to as CT (current transformer) in the following) that detects any
harmonics current.
